The general goal of the Private Water Program is to protect public health and safety by assuring private water wells and pumps are installed to provide safe drinking water through the administration and enforcement of the Water Well and Pump Installation Contractor’s Licensing Act, Illinois Water Well Construction Code, and the Illinois Water Well Pump Installation Code.
In order to achieve the program goals, the Marion County Health Department issues water well construction permits, conducts inspections of new water well construction, investigate complaints regarding private and semi-private water supplies and regulate the sealing of all abandoned wells.
